The Mask series is one of Danielle's recent performance art pieces.

In this series Danielle wears typed signs that operate as thoughts and judgements written on her face. These masks were worn everyday for the first half of 2004, the only time they were not worn was when she was at home or in the studio.

These masks functioned as her lived public face. In this project the mask acted only as her face and did not employ any character apart from her usual self. She carried on her regular routine as if she were not wearing a mask at all.

These photos show masks that were not simply worn for the photoshoot. They are documentations of the masks as they were lived out in everyday life.

For half of the year whenever people spoke to Danielle, they had to speak to the masks or attempt to look into the eyeholes are located in the letters. People who had only met Danielle in the first half of 2004 had not seen her face until the project came to an end.

Artist Running Space is a both a performance art piece and a funtional business which has clearly evolved from the Mask Series.
